On the 17th February 2019 Our Lady of the Assumption parish in Battambang held a ceremony for catechists who made their pledge willing to share and give instructions on the essence of faith. They also pledged that they will pass on the Catholic faith to those wanting to know the about the Catholic Church and its teachings. As a rule, the Battambang city Church has always held such a ceremony for the catechists twice a year in order to open a new catechetical course. This year saw 34 volunteer catechists being installed formally by Mgr. Enrique Figaredo of the Apostolic Prefecture of Battambang.
According to Mrs. Srey sochum, the liaison officer of the parish, the pledge was to remind the catechists of the teaching of the faith properly and with love before God. The lady further said: “Therefore, however difficult it is, do not give up on this work because it is the only way for others to know God.”
During the ceremony, Mgr. Enrique Figaredo requested all the catechists and faithful alike to reflect on some main points as follows:
“First, please live a Catholic life by taking the Word of God as the guide. Second, pray constantly and Third, repent yourself.”
“As a Catholic, perhaps there are some issues making it difficult for you to perform. But these points I have raised above reminds us not to forget who are we and what we do in order to preserve and pass on the faith to others,” He added.
